Prof. John Heather embarks on two new projects

Professor John Heather, lecturer for the School of Community Resources and Development and Hainan University / ASU Joint International Tourism College, is working on two exciting pieces of research.

First, he is collaborating with students and agencies in Hainan on the Hainan National Sports Tourism Demonstration Zone Development Plan (2020-2025). This is "an overall plan that guides Hainan Province to create a national sports tourism demonstration zone. It is an important guide for the rapid, coordinated, and orderly development of the sports tourism industry in Hainan Province. The main basis for cities and counties to promote the creation and development of sports tourism in the national sports tourism demonstration zone during the planning period."

Second, in coordination with research assistant Tingyi (Karma) Zhang, Prof. Heather has produced an Overview of the Hainan Yachting Industry. For the study, they interviewed the Hainan Cruise Yacht Association, the "first provincial yacht association to be established in China." The aim of this report was to gain insights into the current context of Hainan's yachting sector by interviewing key representatives and to give recommendations for the sustainable development of the sector.
