ASU Tourism Student Association Members Learn About Viral Tourism in Page, Arizona

October 5, 2019 - On Nov 1-3, 2019, Tourism Student Association at ASU (TSA) organized a study tour to Page, Arizona to help its members learn about the impact of social media-driven, viral tourism to iconic places such as Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. The tour was lead by Dr. Claire McWilliams and joined by Director Mark Roseland from the School of Community Resources and Development. Twenty-five students who took part in the program had a fun learning experience. Beside visiting places of interests, they also toured several Navajo businesses such as Antelope Hogan Bed & Breakfast. A panel including Navajo tribal members and business owner shared their perspectives about how their communities are impacted by tourism and barriers to equitable access to resources like water, electricity, funding and permitting.
