Mission:
The Center for Sustainable Tourism and its affiliated partners, faculty, and students seek to examine the role and contribution of tourism in the social, cultural, environmental, and economic well-being of communities. The Center’s research, education, and development activities focus on long-term, system-wide, sustainable strategies, and co-created solutions for community and tourism development.
Vision:
We aim to participate in the achievement of sustainable communities by generating new evidence-based knowledge and participating in the development of methods, theories, best practices, and policies for tourism communities application.
Our Highlighted Work:

Tourism Scenarios for Arizona (2020): In response to the overwhelming need to provide insight and possible solutions to the COVID pandemic, ASU tourism faculty led a study using Arizona experts to create possible scenarios about health and the economy in the state.

Visit Phoenix and Phoenix Convention Center Attendee Research (2019): The Center for Sustainable Tourism conducted a full year study of convention attendees and other visitors in the convention areas.

Navajo Nation Visitor Study (2017- ): The Center for Sustainable Tourism is collaborated and continues to collaborate with the Navajo Nation and the Arizona Office of Tourism on a study to better understand visitor experiences at cultural and historical sites on the Navajo Nation in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.

Sedona Sustainable Tourism Planning (2017-2018): The Center for Sustainable Tourism partnered with Mitch Nichols Group to develop a sustainable tourism plan for Sedona, AZ.
- Nine Mile Canyon Public Archaeology Project (2016- ): The Center for Sustainable Tourism is working with the BLM – Green River District in Utah to engage new communities in a public excavation of a Fremont pit structure located in Nine Mile Canyon just north of Wellington, Utah.
