ASU Well Represented at APRA Annual Conference
The School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) made a strong showing at the recent Arizona Parks and Recreation Annual Conference. Undergraduates, graduate students, alumni and faculty came together to present, network and learn from colleagues at the Renaissance Hotel in Glendale.
Presentations on a variety of topics included Team Building in the Workplace (Kailei Foltmer, graduate student); Changing the Culture of Youth Sports (Eric Legg, PhD, SCRD faculty member and Katie Hindman, graduate student); and Developing your Workforce Through Internships (Eric Legg, PhD, SCRD faculty member, Erin Schneiderman, ME.d., SCRD faculty member and Manny Padia, SCRD alum).
Seven students studying Parks, Recreation and Sports Management were awarded scholarships to attend this year's conference and alumni could also be seen volunteering their time at registration, the silent auction and session management.
When we caught up with alum Ryanne Crary, recreation supervisor from the Town of Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation, she told us she learned so much at ASU through experiences, mentorship and networking. These all helped her make great connections in the industry.
Stephanie Chavez-Dirzo, who was also in attendance, added, "I am very passionate about events and how they integrate into the community, so it is important to come to conferences like these." Chavez-Dirzo is the recreation programmer - marketing for the City of Goodyear and a proud Sun Devil.
