Women in Sports and Events spotlights the SCRD!

Student volunteers at the WISE Event

On Wednesday, Sept. 27, the Women in Sports and Events (WISE) Arizona Women of Inspiration Gala welcomed eight volunteers and six paid catering staff members from the tourism, recreational therapy and special events programs at Arizona State University. Their active involvement showcased the commitment of ASU students to community engagement and meaningful participation in significant industry events.

A remarkable highlight of the event was the well-deserved nomination of Erin Schneiderman, director of ASU's Special Events Management Program and clinical assistant professor, for the prestigious Events Executive of the Year award. Erin's dedication and passion for empowering the future generations of tourism, sports and special events management students were evident in her nomination. She has tirelessly worked to provide these students with unparalleled experiential learning opportunities, collaborating with esteemed partners like the Arizona Cardinals, Super Bowl Host Committee, 2024 Men's Final Four Host Committee and M Culinary Concepts, shaping a generation of skilled and motivated professionals in the industry.

The participation of ASU Sun Devils at the WISE Arizona Women of Inspiration event demonstrated the university's commitment to equipping individuals who not only excel academically but also actively engage in promoting recognition, empowerment and growth in various fields -- underscoring ASU's role in shaping the future of sports and event management professionals. Erin's nomination further serves as a testament to ASU's exceptional faculty and their dedication to providing students with the best possible opportunities for learning and growth, ensuring a bright future for the tourism, sports and special events industries.
