SPARC cheers on the Sun Devils and learns about field maintenance  

Recently, members of the Sports, Parks and Recreation Club (SPARC) cheered on the Sun Devil women’s soccer game to a 3-0 victory over Colorado College. Prior to the game, SPARC members chatted with Mike Klakulak, assistant manager for Athletic Grounds at ASU. Mike gave an overview of all the fields his team manages and the various responsibilities of his job, including maintenance and administrative tasks like budgeting. Students were surprised to learn how designs get painted on the field, the amount of sand under the field and how much water the fields get daily. Students also had a chance to ask questions – including some tough questions about water usage and sustainability!
