AoRT students participate in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) Ability 360 Community Event

Students at AoRT event

On Oct. 21, seven Recreational Therapy students from the SCRD's Association of Recreational Therapy (AoRT) coordinated and ran a community event hosted by long-standing partner Ability 360.

The event was inspired by Anthony Castle and his mother Jill with a mission to bring together families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). All guests including parents and siblings enjoyed games, food, music and vendors interaction. Vendors were advocates for providing services to those diagnosed with DMD and other disabilities.

This experience was an opportunity for the students to engage and use critical thinking skills to create effective activities and modalities for the children along with knowledge for future events in their careers. The students cannot wait to continue to engage and explore the endless career paths this event has inspired!
