For 12 years, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Arizona State University (OLLI at ASU) has provided university-quality, low-cost learning experiences through diverse short classes, campus-based learning opportunities, and pathways to public service. There are no tests, grades, or educational requirements! In the spring semester – running from February through May – OLLI at ASU is offering over 140 classes in history, art, music, opera, health, creative writing, science, current events, the environment, literature, politics, religion, physics, space exploration, Shakespeare, and more... There is something for everyone!
Here are a few of OLLI’s spring classes being offered at OneAZ Credit Union, located at 2355 W. Pinnacle Peak Rd. and the Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve, located at 3711 W. Deer Valley Rd: “Introduction to iPhones,” “Introduction to iPhones,” “Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel Ceiling,” “Making, Moving, and Using Pottery in the Ancient Southwest,” and “Archaeology in Practice: Exploring Different Specializations Within the Field.”
“Along with the classes will come many opportunities for you to experience extraordinary cultural events, meaningful volunteer activities, deep friendships, and new ways to serve others.” says Dr. Richard C. Knopf, director of OLLI at ASU.
Those who become members of OLLI may register for as many classes as they wish, and also receive many member benefits, including discounted admission to cultural centers such as the Heard Museum, The Nash, Ballet Arizona, Arizona Opera, and others. OLLI at ASU has recently developed a new partnership with Salt River Brass; OLLI at ASU members can now receive a 20% discount to Salt River Brass performances held at the Mesa Arts Center.
Registration is currently available and classes begin in February, March, April, and May, and are between one and six sessions. Membership for the spring semester is only $20, and classes are $12 per session.
OLLI at ASU is conveniently located throughout the valley: ASU West and Downtown Phoenix campuses, Tempe Public Library, Friendship Village Tempe, and Maravilla Scottsdale. We also hold classes at affiliate locations, including the Arizona Opera Center in Midtown Phoenix, Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve in Glendale, and OneAZ Credit Union in North Phoenix.
