Welcome
from the Director

Welcome to the School of Community Resources & Development! What's the meaning of “community” in our name? It's all about quality of life and engagement – building stronger communities through civic engagement and using resources in the best manner for desirable development outcomes. And, it's all about investing in our communities by employing a variety of resources and relationships for generating desired returns. In our rapidly changing environment, we foster higher quality of life by encouraging asset based development approaches, which enhance and expand all types of resources inherent in communities. We promote this by gauging development outcomes and results not only in economic terms, but also social and environmental dimensions – the dimensions of community. Our School's name and mission reflects this approach by bringing together a diverse array of resources and programs all with the purpose of enabling quality resource utilization and development outcomes in communities locally, regionally, and beyond.
We invite you to join us in our community development activities, through an exciting array of professional and educational programs, outreach, and partnership opportunities. As part of our outreach and research initiatives, we are pleased to announce our new Megapolitan Tourism Research Center . The Center will work with partners to explore issues such as water supply, multiculturism, safety and security related to tourism based development. Diverse resources will be brought together, addressing these issues and reaching out with applied approaches to help solve critical issues impacting communities and regions. Our Center for Nonprofit Leadership and Management provides an innovative and creative portfolio of research, education, technical assistance and conference/training activities, serving the social sector. Nonprofits deliver essential human and social services to enhance quality of life in communities, and these vital organizations are served by the Center's mission to enhance the effectiveness of those who lead, manage and support nonprofit organizations. Collaborative community partnerships are a hallmark of the Center's activities, and we offer a variety of programs in conjunction with local and national partners, building social capital.
Our academic areas encompass a beneficial spectrum of programs in tourism development and management, parks and recreation management, and nonprofit leadership and management – preparing our students for positions in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. All of our programs deal with resources and development approaches that influence quality of life, with programs offering opportunities for civic engagement; leadership and management development; community, parks, natural resource and therapeutic recreation; heritage, cultural, international and eco tourism; meeting and convention planning; and resort and hotel management. Our degree programs include the M.S. in Recreation and Tourism Studies, the Master of Nonprofit Studies, as well as B.S. degrees in Nonprofit Leadership and Management, Tourism Development and Management, and Recreation Management. Additionally, we offer certificates including the nationally recognized American Humanics Certificate Program in Nonprofit Leadership and Management.
Come explore how you can become a part of the exciting and rewarding activities at the School of Community Resources & Development. We welcome your inquiries and visits to our School.
